Well, you have come to the right place. Whether you want to map out problems from a long time ago, daily concerns, or if you feel like no one understands you, talking things through in therapy is a good place to start.  Often when we relive painful experiences, have relationship problems, or face barriers in our communities, our bodies and minds take the toll and we become exhausted and unable to flourish and tap into our energy resources. When this happens, it is hard to be creative, maintain relationships, and take care of ourselves and others. So, how do we get back into that place where we can enjoy what we love about ourselves and those around us? In therapy, there are many basic techniques that can help minimize negative thinking, put problems into perspective, and get the mind and body tuned and settled so that you can be your best self.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Many people have lived through a traumatic event. Some wonder if they will ever feel like “themselves” again. Well, you are not alone. About 90% of people experience at least one traumatic event in their lifetimes (Kilpatrick et al., 2013) and according to the National Comorbidity Survey Replication, the prevalence of PTSD for adults was just under 7% between 2001-2003 (US Department of Veterans Affairs, n.d.). This, however, is not the end of the story. People who have experienced trauma can most certainly find ways to reconnect with their bodies, reprocess the trauma, and maintain rewarding relationships.</image:caption>

      <image:title>EMDR Therapy - Go deep, not to re-hurt</image:title>
      <image:caption>EMDR therapy has become very well known in the last few decades. EMDR was a therapy developed by Francine Shapiro in 1987. It combines eye movements with the exploration of a traumatic memory which can help someone integrate, or how some might say heal from a painful memory, negative childhood humiliation or disappointment (Shapiro, 2018), or even a trauma. In 1995, the EMDRIA (EMDR International Association) brought EMDR to an evidenced-based therapy, and it has grown to be a very sought-after therapy for its effectiveness, non-intrusive approach, and lack of side effects. EMDR is now an evidence-based treatment used with veterans, survivors of violence, other traumas, or anyone who has become stuck in a negative loop due to painful experiences they have undergone. These traumas can include racism, homophobia, classism, and racism. Researchers are strengthening multigenerational racial trauma being reprocessed through EMDR and is a promising area of research (Nickerson, 2017).</image:caption>
